Who knew cooking was fun?

Its amazing how life has this weird way of educating oneself when you least expect. Take for example, yours truly.

You see, our beloved maid had gone back to her home to celebrate Raya for a month. So, me and my brother and 2 useless mutts were left to watch the house, feed each other, water the plants, wash the floor, clean the plates and all that other things that goes into keeping a house running. I tell you, housewives don't get enough credit for running the show.

Anyways, the maid did a brilliant thing by cooking lots of stuff and stuffing it in the freezer. We survived on that for about 2-3 weeks. We occasionally bought food.

But once the food ran out, we had to do the unthinkable. Cook!

I'll readily admit to anyone that i'm lost in the kitchen. I may know where most things are, but i wont know how to put them together and cook up a meal. Previously, all i had to boast on my CV was the ability to cook sausages, burgers, eggs and rice. Hey, thats still something ok! I know where the salt and pepper jars are! Its essential to any decent fried egg!

Anyways, with the help of my girl, we managed to cook up some stuff. She also wanted to do some cooking since she rarely gets to cook in her own home. The stuff we cooked was fried rice, pasta, a kangkung dish and some dry curry chicken dish.

You know whats fun about cooking? Its using all these different spices and herbs and food stuff to create something that tastes wonderful. Its probably what God sorta felt like when he was creating the universe...i mean , not that he was going to eat us, but the fact that it felt good to create it.

Its strange too...nowdays, i find myself reading all those recipe columns in the newspapers. Like today, i read this interesting column in the Sun, about tomato paste, and how it can be used for a lot of other things other than making pasta sauce. Yummy.
