Well, to all my faithful readers (yeah, all 3 of you)...I'M NOT IN JAIL! woopee.
Paid up my fines, which came up to rm1500. According to some people i talked to, i am lucky to get that low a fine, even though i am a first time case.
It was an interesting (if not nerve wrecking) experience going to court. My close friend, who was my 'penjamin' on the particular day i got caught came with me. Am very thankful for his presence there with me, as i have never been to court before and faced the possibility of jail! urgh! Would not have wanted to face that alone. He really didnt have to come, and i didnt even ask him to come, but he said he will come with me.
He gave me a scare in that Monday morning too. Was suppsoed to be in court by 9.30am, so we arranged to meet at my house at 8am and head there. By 8.30am, he hadnt arrived there, and sure enough, when i called him.....he was fucking asleep!! argh! My first thought was "urgh!!! im going to be late and get thrown into jail!!urgh!!" As it turns out, we rushed to court using the LDP, and arrived around 9.15am. Phew!
Oh, If you have no idea why i could have nearly gone to jail...do read my previous post. If you are too lazy to scroll down, then click here you lazy fool
The Makhamah Traffic was rather small. I guess the save the big courts for the big flashy cases. They only started processing my type of offences at around 12pm. So you can imagine, we were just waiting around, from morning. We talked to one of the court intrepreters, seeing if there was any way he could "help" . His advice was very simple. He said that there was nothing much that can be done once a case reaches this far, and the best thing to do is "buat rayuan". (Rayuan = Appeal)
We also met this other dude, who as it turns out...also works in Cyberjaya...and also stays in Subang Jaya..and is the same age as me! hah! He's in the same boat as i am, but the difference was that this was his 2nd time! He got caught exactly a month before. But the lucky bastard managed to get his car out of the police station. Even the intrepreter was somewhat suprised..but not overly. He said usually they dont release the cars thesedays, as a lot do not turn up in court, but he did mention that that depends on the type of "sarjan" you get. If you get the ones that just got promoted (i'm guessing thats the one i got), then they usually go by the book. When i ask the intrepreter dude if he knew the "sarjan" that handled my case...he gave me the male equivalent of the "eye rolling" that em females always too..implying that thats why i couldnt get my car out..... "You got a fucked up sarjan Nimal!!!!"
Everyone is given a chance to make an appeal, on the spot...directly to the judge. Now, this judge was not what i expected. He was a very young dude...fresh faced and looking squaky clean. He also looked like a serious, but nice guy. And he was i guess, as all who appealed got their fines reduced, but off course not to the bare minimum. The intrepreter dude said that this judge was just fresh out of law school...from some US university or something. Apparently he was somekind of "best student" or somthing...thus the government snagged him and strapped his ass to the bench. He'd been only been a judge for about 2 months!
Anyway, as my case got called out, i had to go stand infront. The same intrepreter walked over, and started reading my charges. I swear, at that moment in time, i could feel my heart beating so hard that it could have exploded out of my chest and slammed into the intrepreters face!!
Took a deep breath, and tried to calm myself.
Intrepreter: Mengaku atau tidak?
Me: Mengaku.
what followed was some more blah blah blah....showing me my breathalyzer test results to confirm....and then waited for the judge...
Judge: Rayuan..
Intrepreter: Sila buat rayuan.
Me: Tuan, saya mengakui kesalahan saya.
Yea, the bm, was bad, but trust me, it didnt come out as smoothly as i would have hoped. There were a lot of "err..." and slight pauses while i tried to catch my breath.
Then the was a slight wait as i awaited the judges verdict..
Judge: blah blah blah blah Rm1500 blah blah blah blah
Thank God!!!! Rm1500!!! I'm so relieved! The lowest minimum possible is rm1000, but i doubt anyone gets that low! Thank goodness for my credit card! I withdrew the maximum cash advance possible..which was about rm2000. Thank goodness i didnt have to use all.
Thanks to everyone who prayed for me and tried to help me out! Ruvena, Beez, Gopi, Cyn, Sze Tho...you guys rock. And anyone else who prayed for me and thought of me while i was going through it...you guys rock too!!
So what now dear readers? Well, now i get back to work (which i should be doing right now!)..and prepare for the coming weekend alcohol frenzy! hahaha. Ok, maybe not a frenzy, but a quiet gathering. Whatever lah, im just glad that its over. Any experience is a good experience.
To end my sad but triumphant tale...here's a quote that kinda makes sense
"You're only a criminal when you get caught"
I can just see you guys going "Ooooooo......thats fucking deep man"
