As i sat there, watching the Argentina vs Ivory Coast game, i thought to myself how much Didier Drogba has improved his game since those days when he was simply labelled as a brutish cheating diver. He even admitted as much in one interview. Perhaps he had been taking lessons from his manager about how to brutally honest and shocking at the same time.
But perhaps, he's used those criticisms, to change his game somewhat. I was particularly impressed by the way he was hacked down by Heinze, but got back up immediately, turned to face him, and with some nifty footwork, stuck past 2 players and got a shot on goal. Many players would have just used the oppurtunity to get a freekick or a penalty.
I've noticed him play like this, like a man possessed during the last few weeks of the EPL. The only word which comes to mind when i see him play like this is : INSPIRATIONAL.
The only other player who i know plays like this is Steven Gerrard. One wonders, if Stevie G did go to Chelsea, how much more unbeatable they would have been. Thank the Footballing Gods that he didnt..
The driving force
Are inspirational people just born with that characteristic, or can it be cultivated? I'd like to believe its both. I think some people are just born with the right amount of spices to be deemed inspirational. Then there are others, that become inspirational because of what happens around them.
I wonder if i've got it within me to inspire others. I hope i do. Problem is, im not sure right now what it is i'm supposed to be inspiring people to do. Lets see, what am i good at, that i can use to inspire others:
1. Grow long hair?
2. Talk crap?
3. Worship Liverpool FC?
4. How to drink alcohol like the devil and not get a hangover?
Hmm, other than No.3, i don't think the others are matters of 'substance'. Perhaps this requires more thought.
