V for Vendetta

"Remember, remember, the fifth of November"

Thats a line from a very old nursery rhyme, that talks about an anarchist by the name of Guy Fawkes, that tried to blow up parliment house with 36 barrels of gun powder. It didnt work off course, he was captured, tortured and hanged.

the title character V, whose face we never see

They may have killed the man, but they did not kill the idea. This is the principal theme in the movie. That ideas can revolutionize. Ideas can bring forth change.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I thought it is highly relevant to the state of the world today, its timing couldnt be better. We really need a V in this world.

the appropriately titled character Evey, played by Portman, in one of the more poignant scenes

One of the most profound lines, that really struck a chord with me was:

"Governments must be afraid of the people, not people afraid of their governments"

Is ever such a thing ever possible? Especially in this country of ours? Our government tramples on us with a smile on their faces and we do what all good malaysians do. We say 'Thank You". Perhaps i'm over-generalizing the state of this country. Perhaps perhaps perhaps.

Perhaps we should simply remember the 5th of November.
