Heroes are people who rise above the occasion, have a clear idea what they are going to do, and how they are going to do it.
Heroes have strong mental strength, to go the distance and beyond.
Heroes are selfless and dedicated to the cause.
Heroes inspire the people around them to be heroes.
Liverpool were Heroes a few hours ago. The manager, staff and players, and especially the fans. Leading 2-1, and going away to Turin to face the mighty and experienced Juventus, full of stars on and off the field, and held them to a 0-0 draw. Frankly, Juve looked ordinary, whether it was down to their poor performance, or Liverpool's excellent performance, it doesnt matter. Liverpool never gave them a ounce of hope. We forced Juve to work for every single scrap.
Big big nite for Xabi Alonso. Came back and played the full 90 minutes. He was not even expected to last past 60 minutes, but he did, and did it quite comfortably. Cisse is back, took on players, didnt look fearful for his once broken leg.
Biscan and Alonso were marvellous. The market value for Biscan has deffinately increased ten-fold by this performance. Comfortable on the ball, didnt panic, tried his best to keep possesion and find a teammate with every pass.
Baros could do better though to learn how to keep the ball and not run into the opposition that much, but he is not really a striker built for holding the ball, so he played to his strength. Looking back, he probably keep Montero busy all night with his ceaseless running and promptings.
Hyypia and Carragher. Absolutely unpenetrable. Every tackle, interception and clearance they made boosted the confidence of the team, lifted their confidence to defend against Juve.
If i was Stevie G, i dont think i need any more convincing to stay, but this night is not for him. It is for the fans like him, and the fans like me all over the world. Whatever the outcome of April 27 (semi-final date), i am truly proud of this team and what they have accomplished. Keep up the good work Rafa.
P.S congrats to PSV as well, for making it through, and further proof that Asian players can make it on the European stage. Impressive performance from the PSV left back Lee and striker Park. (i managed to catch the extra time!)
