What a game! What a game it was. Liverpool needed to win by 1-0 scoreline or by at least 2 clear goals to progress to the knockout stages. At half time, they were down 0-1, thanks to a Rivaldo freekick (not that it was a good freekick, it just went right through the wall) so, they needed to score as many goals as they have ever scored in the past 5 games, in 45 minutes. They needed to score 3 goals. And they did it.
Some might say Rafa made an inspired substitution, but in all honestly, he didnt have many attacking options. His first substitution was to bring on Pongolle for Traore at half time. Pongolle took his chance well. Played extremely well, scored the first goal, and made the second goal.
Mellor was brought on for Baros at around the 76th minute. Within 2 minutes, he had scored the second goal, and at around the 85th minutes, made a wonderfully controlled header right into the path of the incoming Steven Gerrard. And our talimanic captain duly obliged by scoring a beauty, a screamer, a scorcher. The significance of the goal, and th goalscorer was immense.
You could see what the goal meant, and to score it infront of the Kop. A wonderful game, and and even more wonderful game if you are a Liverpool fan. Its the stuff fairy tales are made of.
ahhhhh....first we beat Arsenal, and now we get into the knockout stages. What a week it has been for all die hard supporters of the club.....WHAT A WEEK.
FINAL SCORE: Liverpool 3 - Olympiakos 1
